چکیده
BACKGROUND Infertility is an increasing medical and social problem. In vitro fertilization (IVF) has become a common and accessible treatment for a wide variety of indications that have variable outcomes. Natural killer (NK) cells have been identified as relevant immunological factors involved in reproductive success or failure. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to compare the percentage of peripheral blood CD56(+) (CD56(dim) and CD56(bright)) cells and the level of NK cell in patients with IVF failure with those of successful IVF control women. MATERIALS AND METHODS We assessed the level of CD56(dim) CD16(+) and CD56(bright) CD16(-) cells in 50 women under IVF treatment and compared between successful IVF and IVF failure with the flowcytometry technique. RESULTS Of studied women, 68% did not response to IVF therapy and 32% had successful IVF, the level of CD56(dim) CD16(+) cells in women with IVF failure was significantly higher than successful IVF (p<0.0001) but the level of CD56(bright) CD16(-) cells was not significantly different between women with IVF failure and successful IVF (p=0.28). CONCLUSION The results of present study demonstrated that the level of NK cells as a risk factor is associated with pregnancy loss in women with IVF failure. However, number of sample in this study is low and further studies with more sample size are needed to be done. We suggest considering treatment option for women undergoing repeated IVF failure with increased percentage of CD56(dim) cells and the level of peripheral blood NK cell.

Circulating NK cells and their subsets in Behçet's disease
Behçet's disease (BD) is an autoinflammatory, chronic relapsing/remitting disease of unknown aetiology with both innate and acquired immune cells implicated in disease pathogenesis. Peripheral blood natural killer (NK) cells and their CD56Dim /CD56Bright subsets were surface phenotyped using CD27 and CD16 surface markers in 60 BD patients compared to 60 healthy controls (HCs). Functional potent...
متن کاملSoluble HLA-G dampens CD94/NKG2A expression and function and differentially modulates chemotaxis and cytokine and chemokine secretion in CD56bright and CD56dim NK cells.
Soluble HLA-G (sHLA-G) inhibits natural killer (NK) cell functions. Here, we investigated sHLA-G-mediated modulation of (1) chemokine receptor and NK receptor expression and function and (2) cytokine and chemokine secretion in CD56bright and CD56dim NK cells. sHLA-G-treated or untreated peripheral blood (PB) and tonsil NK cells were analyzed for chemokine receptor and NK receptor expression by ...
متن کاملAltered Expression of Natural Cytotoxicity Receptors and NKG2D on Peripheral Blood NK Cell Subsets in Breast Cancer Patients1
Human natural killer (NK) cells are considered professional cytotoxic cells that are integrated into the effector branch of innate immunity during antiviral and antitumoral responses. The purpose of this study was to examine the peripheral distribution and expression of NK cell activation receptors from the fresh peripheral blood mononuclear cells of 30 breast cancer patients prior to any form ...
متن کاملThe State of Peripheral Blood Natural Killer Cells and Cytotoxicity in Women with Recurrent Pregnancy Loss and Unexplained Infertility
Objective : The prognostic value of peripheral natural killer (pNK) cells, as a screening test in women with recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) and unexplained infertility is still a matter for discussion. The aim of this study was to compare the percentage of circulating CD56+NK cells, CD69 and perforin markers between women with unexplained infertility and RPL with healthy control group. Material...
متن کاملDifferential expression of SHIP1 in CD56bright and CD56dim NK cells provides a molecular basis for distinct functional responses to monokine costimulation.
Monocyte cytokines (ie, monokines) induce natural killer (NK) cells to produce interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma), which is critical for monocyte clearance of infectious pathogens and tumor surveillance. Human CD56bright NK cells produce far more IFN-gamma in response to monokines than do CD56dim NK cells. The kinases and phosphatases involved in regulating IFN-gamma production by monokine-activated ...
